Description

LO-W paper is a quartz-speed, high contrast lights on contact paper for production of high quality black-and-white proofs and contact prints from line and halftone negatives or positives.

Features

  • Resin-coated paper base
  • Subdued white light, or yellow safelight handling
  • Rapid, uniform vacuum drawdown
  • Reflective density 1.70 to 1.90; may vary with densitometer
  • Compatible with most rapid access chemistries

Safelights

Handle paper under subdued white or high illumination yellow lighting at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) from the paper surface until processed.

Recommended Safelighting:

  • Illumination Technology Ultra White Arm-A-Safelight
  • EncapSulite™ UV Daylight White, No. C-20
  • F40G0 gold fluorescent lamp

Storage

Keep unexposed paper and processed paper in a cool, dry place. Process paper as soon as possible after exposure. Rewrap unused paper in the inner wrap to help protect it from changes caused by humidity variation. Humidity variability can affect flatness of paper.

Exposure

Exposure Source

  • 500 to 1000 watt quartz- halogen lamp at least 5 feet from the exposure plane
As an alternative, a multilevel, high-intensity 500 to 1500 watt metal- halide modular exposure source can be used; a light attenuator (filtered UV) must be used with this exposure source.

Exposure Suggestions

  • Exposure for best dot reproduction varies with lamp, lamp distance and processing combinations. For uniform light distribution with open contact frames, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for lamp height adjustment.
  • Perform an exposure time series test to determine the best exposure for particular lamp and lamp distance combinations. Starting exposure recommendation: 5 to 20 seconds at 36 to 60 inches from exposure plane.
  • Light falloff from the center to the edge of the exposure source may affect reproduction quality. To ensure optimum reproduc- tion, check for light falloff.

Processing

LO-W paper is best suited for rapid access processing. Refer to the container labels for mixing and other instructions regarding the processing chemicals.

Processing Recommendations

Before handling or using any chemical product, be sure to read the Material Safety Data Sheet for health hazard data, precautionary information and suggested first aid. Use these recommendations as a starting point. For optimum results, use:

  • RLD rapid laser developer (1:4)
  • RLF rapid laser fix (1:6 or 1:5)

Processing time for paper can be shortened if processing exclusively from film. Use a 20 second starting point when processing under this condition.

Process Time Temp Replenishment Rate (50% Area Exposed)
RLD developer* 20-40 seconds 95°F (35°C) 0.40 ml/sq inch (620 ml/sq meter)
RLF fix 20-40 seconds 90°F (32°C) 0.35 ml/sq inch (540 ml/sq meter)
* These conditions are also applicable to most rapid access processing chemistries.
